Washing Machine Troubleshooting

If you think your washing machine may be faulty, check the following points before calling a Service Engineer. These checks could prevent a charge being made for the Service man's visit if the machine is found to be in perfect working order.

Initially check the filter on your washing machine and clean if necessary, your manual should detail this procedure.

If your machine will not start or complete the programme, check:

  • The plug, the socket and the switch, if necessary, with another appliance.

  • The fuse in the plug.

  • That the door is closed.

  • That a programme is accurately selected.

If water will not enter, check:

  • The hot and cold hoses are correctly connected to the relevant caps and that these are turned on.

  • That a suitable programme has been selected.

If water will not drain, check:

  • That the outlet hose is not kinked or raised more than 40° from the floor.

  • If you wish to remove articles when the water will not pump out, place the end of the drain hose into a bucket on the floor and allow water to drain out by gravity, noting that more than one bucketful may be present. Hook the hose into the sink again and try the spinner before removing the articles - if this fails most of the water can be baled out with a cup.

If the above method fails to remove the water then the pump is probably blocked - do not open the door, but contact your nearest Service Engineer.
